American Federation of Labor President William Green
(second from left) and Congress of Industrial Organizations President John
L. Lewis (third from right) - normally bitter antagonists in the trade
union arena - were brought together here, along with Secretary of Labor
Frances Perkins, at an April 20, 1937 labor management conference aimed at
averting strikes and lockouts.
