Another political drawing by Harris. Using visual conventions of the day he shows the South trying to confine black women to domesticity. The "Confederate" is identified by his goatee, mustache, bow tie, and long jacket. He harshly holds the arm of the young black woman, expecting her to remain in domestic servitude in the kitchen.

Readers are being inspired to resist those limited expectations and pursue an education. The cartoon was published in the magazine's education issue, which contained other fervent calls for black parents to fight hard for education for their children.
