Demonstration supporting Gandhi, New York City 1936.

The crowd at this demonstration at South Ferry were protesting the British clubbing of the non-violent followers of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi. According to notes on the photograph, the demonstration erupted into violence shortly after this photograph was taken, with police and civilian casualties.
