In 1983, the American Transportation Union (ATU) conducted a bitter strike against the Greyhound Bus Co. in New York City. Unions represented at this demonstration include Local Union no. 3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 99, International Ladies Garment Workers Union, DC 37, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 808 International Brotherhood of Teamsters, District 65, United Auto Workers, and the Communications Workers of America.
