  Photograph by Sam Reiss.

Garment Presser, 1950s.

Man pressing a man's shirt, possibly in a garment factory. The fact that he is working in his undershirt reflects the incessant heat in the workplace. Note the shirt of the same fabric in the foreground waiting to be pressed, and similar shirts hanging in the background, already pressed. Reiss worked regularly for the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, and possibly took this photograph in a shop the union had successfully organized.
