  Photograph by Sam Reiss.

Poor family on the Lower East Side, New York City, 1968.

The label on this image says "Lower East Slums 1968," but it is not certain who wrote the caption for this posed shot of an African American woman and two children in a rudimentary apartment in New York. Note the kitchen counter created by covering the bathtub with a work surface. Reiss did photography work for the United Housing Foundation, and probably took this shot for them.
