The Friday evening following the 9/11 attack candle light vigils were held throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs where many of the victims had lived.
The largest gathering was in Union Square, the site closest to the attack site that the public could access. The group shown here gathered at the Fireman's Memorial on
100th Street and Riverside Drive (built 1914).
