In a Coal Mine Near Pottsville, PA, 1938.

Photograph by Jack Delano .

Some of the finest photographers and most dramatic pictures to come out of the Great Depression were products of the photographers gathered by Roy Stryker in the New Deal-created Farm Security Administration. One of them - Jack Delano - came to the U. S. from Kiev, Russia in 1923. His photos shown here cover a variety of industries. This one is in a coal mine near Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
