New York City Central Labor Council

Although this is not a banner from the garment industry, it hung for many years on the walls with the other banners in this exhibit, in the ACTWU meeting room where the New York City Central Labor Council often held meetings. The blue cloth has gold borders, fringe, lettering, and designs at top and bottom. The center logo is of two hands shaking, used here to symbolize the merger of the AFL and the CIO—though the symbol was used to symbolize other mergers earlier in the century. Bottom lettering reads: AFL-CIO New York, N.Y. The New York City Central Labor Council met at the Joint Board meeting room on 15th Street for some time, and though this banner hung on the wall together with all the garment union banners for many years.
